Newsletter November 28th, 2011
Dear Visitor
Greetings!
This is the last newsletter for 2011..
The silly season is upon us, so keep some space in your diary for your yoga sanity sessions in the frantic lead up to Xmas!
We have another 3 weeks of classes and finish up for the year on Saturday December 17th.
The studio will be closed for a month and we kick off 2012 with an early morning series of classes and evening open classes for the first 2 weeks, then back into the full timetable from the end of January. (more details on left in events & news)
This month we feature some beautiful words from Hafiz , the 14th Century Persian Sufi poet. I have selected some pieces to celebrate love and the wondrous beauty of life. I hope they bring you pleasure.
We had a wonderful 4th birthday party at the studio on Saturday with much fun and good humour shared by all. The Lizards played excellently and we even got to try my favourite & ridiculous “know your arse-ana” game, Bummo! It was silly and hilarious and all the while Buddha watched on with a smile… and he's still wearing his party outfit!
Let’s embrace the festive season with a zest for life, love, pleasure, warmth, generosity and a gentle eye to ahimsa, (non harming to self and others in thought, deed and action), good for keeping balance in our partying! And from the Xmas Grinch scroll right down to the bottom to check out this month's "and one more thing" section, let's make our dollars count!
Thankyou all so much for being part of SunYoga in 2011. You are all a valuable part of our SunYoga family and we thank you for your contribution and support.
Enjoy! The next e-news will come out at the beginning of February.
Love Claire xx
Poems by Hafiz
(translated by Daniel Ladinsky)
Only One Rule
The sky Is a suspended blue ocean. The stars are the fish that swim.
The planets are the white whales I sometimes Hitch a ride On,
The sun and all light Have forever fused themselves into my heart And upon my Skin.
There is only one Rule on this Wild Playground,
Every sign Hafiz has ever seen Reads the same.
They all say,
“Have fun, my dear; my dear, have fun, In the Beloved’s divine Game,
O, in the Beloved’s Wonderful Game.”
Dropping Keys
The small man Builds cages for everyone He Knows. While the sage, Who has to duck his head When the moon is low, Keeps dropping keys all night long For the Beautiful Rowdy Prisoners.
Then Winks
Everything is clapping today,
Light, Sound, Motion, All movement.
A rabbit I pass pulls a cymbal From a hidden pocket Then winks.
This causes a few planets and I To go nuts And start grabbing each other.
Someone sees this, Calls a Shrink,
Tries to get me Committed For Being too Happy.
Listen: this world is the lunatic’s sphere, Don’t always agree it’s real,
Even with my feet upon it And the postman knowing my door
My address is somewhere else.

Silly Season’s Greetings to all!
I love Christmas for many reasons; time spent with family, the sharing of food and gifts, and the many happy memories that the season brings. Though it can get very busy I endeavour to stay present (ha ha) and really enjoy each and every moment of the season (as these will be the fond memories I look back on in the future). I hope you also have time to enjoy good company, good food and much laughter during the break.
I would like to thank all of the SunYoga students for their commitment to yoga in 2011. Don’t forget to come along to yoga over the next few weeks and I also look forward to seeing you all refreshed and renewed in 2012.
Season’s greetings and Namaste,
Belinda xx
Our feature Student of the Month
Introducing our Silver Member, Sylvia Matlach:
Sylvia has been coming to yoga for 4 months, you could say she is right at the beginning of her yoga journey. From her first class she embraced yoga wholeheartedly, she immediately started coming along twice a week and was our first Silver Member! I am impressed that as a young adult in her twenties she has found the commitment and passion for yoga and recognises just how much it helps her…
Here is Sylvia’s yoga story thus far…
4 months ago I found myself wondering about yoga. I work long hours in a busy customer service based role. The position is often challenging and stressful, trying to meet clients' requirements and deadlines. I was regularly suffering from stress and anxiety and looking for ways to learn to deal with it.
I had heard and read that yoga was supposed to be good for stress so I did some research and found SunYoga. I wasn’t sure what to expect but right from the first class I loved it! I have been coming twice a week since July and I can really feel the benefits. I am more relaxed and happy and not nearly as stressed. I find that when the heat is on at work I just cope better. Being aware of my breathing helps me to stay calm and I am not getting so flustered or anxious.
I love coming to yoga, the physical postures release any built up tension from my day. After class I feel calm & relaxed on the inside…mellow and at peace. It feels like I have been on a cruise ship holiday!
I tell a lot of people about yoga. I keep saying, “Why don’t you get into yoga, it’s the best, the best thing ever! Not only does it improve your physical strength and tones your body, it also gives you mental replenishment…”
I am very happy I have found yoga, it’s incredible. I think not many of my generation understand how good it is, have any idea of what it is about, or realise the benefits of yoga… So, I tell as many people as I can,
“Get into it, the results are amazing!”
Sylvia xx
And one more thing...
Christmas Consumer Craziness!
The Holy Season of Spending... Did you happen to see the Gruen Planet on ABC 1 last week? The Pitch segment featured 2 brilliant anti-pitches about xmas.
I loved both of the ads, they are a fantastic reminder of the consequences of the more commercial side of Christmas. Food for thought and worth spreading around...
