APRIL 1ST 2019

Hello SunYogis!

Greetings to all my subscribers and welcome to all the newcomers.

I'm a tad blown away that it is already time for me to be writing the term 2 Newsletter....(So it will be a short one). Time flies when you are having fun!

I firstly want to say that I have immensely enjoyed meeting all of you attending classes throughout term 1 and I thank you for welcoming me with open arms, and hearts. I have felt at times a little nervous, excited, and very connected to you all. THANK YOU!! I have appreciated your feedback and discussions about all things yoga and more. I feel blessed that we are sharing and continuing on this yoga journey together.

Term 1 SunYoga classes are drawing to a close and you will find all the Term 2 classes info below.  Please remember to book your class spots.  All the classes are well attended with some close to full.  To secure your spot book as soon as you can.

I've been asked by quite a few of you to arrange copies of some of the readings that I shared throughout the term so I thought I'd do it here in this newsletter. I'm glad that they have resonated with you and have given you food for thought in your practice, and also off the mat, because as you know, that is what yoga is about. Not simply our physical practice but also how we take that yummy feeling we get after a class into our daily lives? How do we practice more self care, more connection with our "self" and with others? And how do we experience more balance and more joy, ongoing?

This term we have explored themes such as: Giving & Receiving, Slowing Down, Extending the Exhale, Softening our Hearts and our most recent theme: Opening to More Joy and the difference between Joy and Happiness. This theme was one that I personally feel we could do a whole term on. But having said that, they are ALL so intertwined, with so much depth for possible exploration.

So please scroll down to enjoy Thoughts & Readings.

Shared thoughts and readings:

"It's the simple things in life that are the most extraordinary". — Paulo Coelho

Above photo from a SunYoga Facebook Post:  "This is so true! One morning I was spraying my beautiful little succulents and I watched one big droplet form and run down a leaf into another big droplet to make this huge one which I thought would roll right off, but it just sat there. And so did I..... watching it and appreciating its beauty. It made me smile."

"Slowing down is the precursor to yoga practice because this simple act allows us to consider our thoughts, feelings, and actions more carefully in the light of our desire to live peacefully."
            — Donna Farhi
"The degree to which you do not believe you have time to spend even ten minutes sitting quietly is the degree to which you desperately need to spend ten minutes sitting quietly."
            — Donna Farhi

“Discovering more joy does not, save us from the inevitability of hardship and heartbreak. In fact, we may cry more easily, but we will laugh more easily too. Perhaps we are just more alive. Yet as we discover more joy, we can face suffering in a way that ennobles rather than embitters. We have hardship without becoming hard. We have heartbreaks without being broken.”
            — Desmond Tutu, The Book of Joy

“What I’m advocating here is something that requires courage — the courage to have a change of heart. The reason this requires courage is because when we don’t do the habitual thing, hardening our heart and holding tightly to certain views, then we’re left with the underlying uneasiness that we were trying to get away from. Whenever there’s a sense of threat, we harden. And so if we don’t harden, what happens? We’re left with that uneasiness, that feeling of threat. That’s when the real journey of courage begins. This is the real work of the peacemaker, to find the soft spot and the tenderness in that very uneasy place and stay with it. If we can stay with the soft spot and stay with the tender heart, then we are cultivating the seeds of peace”.
            — Pema Chodron in Practicing Peace in Times of War

"Everything in life is most fundamentally a gift. And you receive it best and you live it best by holding it with very open hands."
           — Leo O'Donovan

"As we were growing up, many of us were told that 'it is better to give than to receive'. Yet both giving and receiving are required to keep the flow of love and joy and abundance circulating in our lives. To take a simple example, every time we breathe in, we are taking in life-giving oxygen produced by the plants and trees; and when we exhale, we're giving back the carbon dioxide that in turn nourishes the plants and trees.
In receiving, we're giving. Think of how much joy you feel when you truly give and to get to experience the joy that comes from seeing the happiness of the recipient. Imagine how you might feel if they refused your gift...if they stopped the flow of energy.
At the deepest level, giving and receiving are the same thing-different aspects of the same flow of energy in the universe. If you have trouble receiving gifts, help, compliments, or anything else, consider the words of someone who is considered to be one of the most giving, enlightened beings ever to live- the Buddha, who said:
'You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection.'
               — Deepak Chopra (E-book)
