    • TERM 3, 2023 DATES & FEES

Hello dear SunYogis.

A very big welcome to some newcomers who have joined us over the last term.  This term we have braved the cold to practice together and also been flexible to work around the unexpected paint works at our practice space in Albion. Tonights class will be the last for term 2 and a make up for the class that needed to be cancelled due to the paint smell. To those of you who came only to have to go home I thank you for your understanding.

Many of you commented on the poem I shared in class last week. It may have been your first time hearing it or you may have been in class when I shared it in 2021. The poem invites us to spend time in our lungs where there is no yesterday or tomorrow, just now. Inhale …. &  exhale……. The poem is a great reminder that we can find a place of rest with in our own self regardless of our circumstances. We have the capacity to slow our breath to calm the mind, body and emotions. As I say in class often, a phrase from Dr Sue Morter, “we train the mind to serve the body”.   I thought I’d share the YouTube link to the author reading the poem, “My Brain & Heart Divorced” by John Roedel. Enjoy!

June 20-23 is the Winter Solstice in the southern hemisphere. This year it is Thursday, June 22 at 12:57am. The shortest day and the longest night. Astronomically marks the beginning of lengthening days and shortening nights. From a yogis perspective  it is a time to surrender to the darkness and begin to open to the light and longer days. We practice Surya Namaskar – Salute to the Sun. Inviting more light in. Also allowing ourselves to imagine the life we wish to move into, to create. It is a very creative time and a time that all indigenous cultures have recognised and celebrated.

Here is a free Winter Solstice meditation from YouTube by one of my teachers, Dr Sue Morter. It goes for an hour. If meditation is not easy (yet) for you then use this as you rest in Sarvasana, or as you go to sleep.

“WE ARE THE LIGHT” – Winter Solstice Meditation with Dr Sue Morter.

On a personal note: Many of you know I recently took part in a show with my home town theatre company – Shepparton Theatre Arts Group. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to do another one. This time with not so many rehearsal commitments and travel. Also a concert production means not such a big cast of dancers and actors. It is a Christmas in July Concert. I usually don’t sing Christmas carols so I am going beyond my comfortable safe space…. I am loving it and I get to frock up! So for my yoga term break I will be having a few days away with my partner and our doggies, starting tomorrow, then returning to finish preparations for our upcoming “AWAKEN & RESTORE Workshop” on Saturday July 1. That night I head up to Shepparton (full of all the beautiful energy from our workshop together) for Sunday rehearsal – the beginning of production week.  A couple more rehearsals before the shows on July 7 & 9. Then it’s time for term 3 on July 11. Scroll down for details.

One more personal thing I’d like to share- for those of you interested- I have a public gig coming up soon at the Bathtub Gin Co Distillery in Williamstown on Sunday July 23rd. 3-6pm. I will be accompanied by my amazing pianist Brett Rosenberg. We will be performing Jazz and contemporary repertoire. From Casandra Wilson, Sarah Vaughan & Nora Jones to Sarah Bareilles, Sarah McLachlan, Corrine Bailey-Rae and Incognito. Yes I do seem to like a lot of singers named Sarah.  I’m really looking forward to this one! And would love to see you there.

Until I see you on the mat, breath deeply and stay warm!

Much love,

Lisa xxx

Awaken & Restore Workshop

My next workshop – AWAKEN & RESTORE is scheduled for July 1st.

10.30am – 1pm.

So if you have been wanting to attend for the first time or return after your last bliss out with these practices, places are limited so please book ASAP.

I had some amazing feedback from the previous workshops. Here is just a few snippets:

“Lisa’s beautiful calming voice guided us through amazing breath work, asana, mantra and meditation practices. My nervous system was so calm & I felt renewed from the inside out……”

“I was fortunate enough to attend the Breathing Space Workshop held by Lisa recently & I left the yoga space feeling uplifted, relaxed and rejuvenated. It is lovely to have the extra time to slow down and go deeper into the reasons why we practise. Lisa always chants at the end of  our weekly sessions but during this extended mini retreat we enjoyed longer melodic chants, mantra with asana & Vedic chanting. What a treat! I highly recommend the experience to those who are long time yogis or people who are first time practitioners.”

“….I had never done Yoga Nidra before and Lisa’s guided practice sent me into a state of conscious relaxation that lasted the whole day!….”

Check the Awaken & Restore Workshop page for more details and bookings.
